Let's go back to Jersey Street
Bill:
This is a bad friggin year to be a Red Sox fan.
Bill:
As if the Septembah Collapse wasn't enough, now we find out that the Red Sox have their own Penn State taint?
Bill:
"Two sources, who asked not to be identified, said a Red Sox player caught Fitzpatrick sodomizing a boy in the shower, much like then-Penn State graduate assistant Mike McQueary did Sandusky. The player reported the incident to the team but not police. Fitzpatrick kept his job anyway."
Bill:
So for the motherfucking Yawkeys we've got...
Bill:
Racism? Check.
Covering up and otherwise enabliing anal rape of children? Check.
I mean what's left for Yawkey-sponsored atrocities? Genocide? Cliterectomy? Canabalism?
Doug:
Puts a whole different slant on "Yawkey Way" doesn't it?
Bill:
I just threw up in my mouth.
I am seriously nauseated. The Yawkeys should sure as shit be kicked out of the HoF since we can't do anything like public lynching now. What an abominable stain on the franchise. I need a break from this team.... March can't come late enough for me.

Beautifully written article, though.
Posted by: Natalie | 2011.11.11 at 08:50 AM
Well that made my day.

What a terrible start to Nigel Tufnel Day.
Posted by: Bob | 2011.11.11 at 08:55 AM
I remember the Yawkey years well. Are you really surprised?
Posted by: lc | 2011.11.11 at 08:56 AM
At least the Bruins are winning ;)
Posted by: Harwich Rich | 2011.11.11 at 09:09 AM
I'll take responsibility for some cannabis-ism back in the day. The Yawkeys own the rest of that legacy. Jezuz, that's shameful.
It's gonna be a long winter. But as Nat said, probably not long enough...

It's funny that this isn't common knowledge. Guess it shows that the Sox paying for silence has worked. I remember hearing about this years ago but nobody ever seemed all that outraged.

Puts a whole different slant on "ball boy" doesn't it?
Posted by: Kaz | 2011.11.11 at 09:57 AM
It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.
Posted by: James | 2011.11.11 at 09:59 AM
Good grief, I'm sick after reading that.
Posted by: soxinsix | 2011.11.11 at 10:03 AM
Some of my first memories of life involve the Red Sox, yet I had never heard of this.
Posted by: COD | 2011.11.11 at 10:59 AM
But the good news is, soxinsix, you're the 11th comment on 11-11-11.
Buy a lottery ticket.

Or some life insurance

One thing this site always reminds me, it's such a fine line between clever and stupid.
Posted by: Soulie | 2011.11.11 at 11:45 AM
I shall steadfastly remain over here on the stupid side of the line.
It's not so much that I want to be here, it's that I can't seem to find my way across to the clever side...

Hearing Papelbon to the Phillies.
Posted by: Kaz | 2011.11.11 at 02:27 PM
As long as it's in trade for Lee, Halliday, Rollins and maybe Victorino, I'm cool with it.
:)
Posted by: Rob in CT | 2011.11.11 at 02:30 PM
Yup.
BTW, didn't the Phillies just sign their closer?
Posted by: Bob | 2011.11.11 at 02:31 PM
Saw the same item on Boston.com. As long as it's in trade for Lee, Halladay, Rollins and maybe Victorino, I'm cool with it.
:)

And before it starts, I know, I know:
Papelbon = free agent this winter...
Posted by: Rob in CT | 2011.11.11 at 02:37 PM
4yr, $50M (pending physical). I'm guessing as long as he doesn't belch up a KFC side dish he'll be ready to go.
Posted by: Kaz | 2011.11.11 at 02:41 PM
yep...so far this is turning into one super hot stove. more like a hot karl. going back into hiding.
Posted by: sonomasox | 2011.11.11 at 02:53 PM
horrible! horrible day. that article. papelbon. espn in general...
Posted by: Lauren | 2011.11.11 at 03:35 PM
Holy shit this Hot Stove season sucks. There better be some really good players under my Christmas tree or else I am gonna be one sad puppy this winter. Does this team even have a vision right now? I don't get the sense there is ANY sort of cohesive business plan for player acquisition, maintenance and management within the Sox organization. Perhaps if they spent less time fellating the local media?
Posted by: Natalie | 2011.11.11 at 04:16 PM
I expected Paplebon to go. I am in the camp that is happy with this, as long as they sign another closer for less and bolster the rest of the 'pen.
And to sound like someone's grandmother, fellow Sox fans, "It is always darkest before the dawn"
Posted by: vancouversoxfan | 2011.11.11 at 04:30 PM
Actually, now that we've turned our clocks back, it's darkest before beer cart.
Have a great weekend all. Hopefully we'll have something fun to yak about on Monday.
Posted by: Bob | 2011.11.11 at 04:56 PM
Errata...
So the redsox provided a how to guide for the penn state athletic rape program. Thats just fucking great.
The red sox management team decided to leave so they could work together elsewhere, or at least think seriously about it. Very very embarassing.
The AD at my son's middle school showed a movie this week preaching the benefits of steroids for athletes and how they are a misunderstood drug. The fuck?
I thought sports were supposed to be fun.
Oh, and Papelbon is a douchebag. Good riddance to a real asshat.
Have I captured the mood?

Putting this all on the Yawkeys is way too convenient. The fact is nobody called the police. And this is hardly ancient history. The lawsuits were settled in 2003, and the victims were made to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
Bob Hohler of the Globe did an investigative series on the scandal. But then the story died. No one followed up on it. I may be wrong, but my recollection is that the Herald never printed a word.
This is real strange behavior from both the Red Sox organization and from the media in general. I've got to think that some of the people who were around in 1991 and in 2003 knew more and could have done more. Many of the people who were around then are still in baseball or are still in the media. I bet they'd like nothing better than if this blew over with a little bit of talk about how terrible Tom Yawkey was.
Yawkey had been dead 15 years when Fitzpatrick was allowed to retire to his condo in Randolph. For a pedophile with a thing for black children, can you think of a more ideal retirement?

As a parent of an 11 year old boy, I could not be more mortified. The evil sewer that runs beneath seemingly normal behavior is in full effect. My faith in institutions is seriously shaken. How can I let my son out of my sight when predators lurk in the very places he's supposed to be safest? How could anyone witness this revolting perversion and not intervene?? Instead they report it to the coach. The fucking coach????The very notion of this... I simply cannot process this unspeakable horror.
Yes, throwing up in my mouth is my reaction as well. Not loving sports right now.
