It's a true fact

Doug:
Tough weekend to be a Red Sox fan, eh, Ahts?

Arturo, the hot dog vendor:
Yeah, the anti-Sox vitriol nationwide was dialed up to 11.

Doug:
Seriously. wearing a Sox cap is like wearing a fur coat at a PETA fundraisah.

Arturo, the hot dog vendor:
Well, it's like Nietzsche said, "We do not hate as long as we still attach a lessah value, but only when we attach an equal or a greatah value."

Doug:
Or as Lil' Wayne prefers to put it, "Dear Mr. Toilet, I’m the shit, I got these other haters mad cause my toilet paper thick."

Arturo, the hot dog vendor:
That'll work.

Doug:
That's right. We win bettah. We lose bettah.

Arturo, the hot dog vendor:
Absolutely. We don't make the news; we are the fucking news.

The 11 PM news on Friday spent the first 10 minutes of the 35 minutes talking about Theo and Tito. Then other news, followed by weather, followed by the sports reporter coming on and talking about the EXACT SAME aspects that they covered of the Tito story for the first 10 minutes of the newscast!

At one point in the 10 minutes up front of Red Sox coverage, they had one reporter "live at Fenway" with the "Teammates" statue behind him...then back to the studio...then back to a different reporter "live at Fenway" who had the "Ted Williams" statue behind her!! They're side-by-side "live at Fenway"...they probably used the exact same camera guy! WOW, just wow. Of course, this is all going on at 11 PM when the entire place is dead...it's not like there were late minute talks going on or something. Yeesh.

It's funny because it's true. Even "The Soup" had a Red Sox-trashing joke this weekend.

We don't do small, whimpering collapses in Boston. Go epic or go home. (Or in this case, both.)

Welcome to the big leagues. This is nothing different than Yanks fans experience, or Cowboys, or the Patriots, any "dynasty" created by winning and amped up to record-setting levels of annoying by new fans (I refuse to say pink hats, because that there's simple misogyny- a lot of fairweather fucks are male, y'all)...
Headed up Beantown way later this week for meetings; gonna be weird to be in the area in early Oct with nothing doing on the baseball front. Sigh.

I guess today was my day for the double posting. I should probably stop drinking between starts.

I thought drinking was pretty much a requirement when hanging out here.

Drinking and the chronic. Heavy on the chronic lately.

BTW - I'm getting a weird 5 delay when clicking submit. Nothing happens at all, then suddenly the screen refreshes and the comment is there. I wonder if it is related to the increase in double posts the last few days?

Saw a great article the other day that i cant find the link for anymore... Talked about annoying redsox fans because we use superlatives for all aspects of the team, greatest game, greatest comeback, worst ever collapse, etc. And it then went on to say that this is so, becuAse its all true. The redsox do have the biggest, greatest, longest, collapsingest, blah blah blah. Case in point was the last game against the o's. Chance of winning when you got 2 outs in bottom of 9th with none on and a run in hand, 99+%. Chance of rays losing when down by 7 in 8th, 96+%. Chance of both things going the other way, 1 in 248million. So, yes, "Nobody does it better, Makes me feel sad for the rest, ... "

So, stories about the Sox clubhouse keep trickling out. Curious, while guts like th CHB are bashing bloggers, where was the reporting this year? Don't come to me the last week of September suddenly discovering that the clubhouse was cliques R us. That Beckett had put on 20 lbs. What good is clubhouse access if you don't use it for anything?

The overnight ratings numbers are in for the other teams in the playoffs. Even the MFYs ratings (7.02) are below such college matchups as TCU-Whoever (Prime 5.54). Bet the ratings in the Hub are low single digits.
Mudville took a deep one yesterday, rating 15.6 @1PM, 22 @ 3:45! MLB two hours later? ARI/MIL 2.22- ouch. Thanks to my god daughter for the numbers.

Taking *TONS* of shit down here in TX about the Sox. Lots of piling on. Guessing people really do like their underdogs. That, along with an abject hatred of pink hat fans ( with all due respect, there's plenty of male pink hats out there, Natalie.)

Nat,

Assuming you've heard about Arrested Dev. coming back for a season? That's one of your faves right?

My MFY friends who were curiously hard to find in mid July are wearing me out now, but it's okay. part of the territory.

hb- I DID! A season AND a movie: I am hyperventillating with excitement! For those who have never seen it: HuluPlus has all three seasons, as does Netflix streaming so GET ON THAT SHIT NOW. :)

Jeff, I presume this is the article about which you wrote.

Thats it. Thx da kine. It was a fun read. Then Tito news broke and the mood changed for a few days.

And on a completely different note, the news is finally out in research form that mushrooms of the zoomer variety improve personality. I can in fact attest to the fact that they make many boys and girls smile A LOT.

Maybe not such a different subject - maybe thats what the clubhouse really needed.

Where in Texas, Rob? I'm guessing that if you're not near Houston, then it's just deflection as a method of mental preservation by Cowboys fans who have to watch Romo reenact the Red Sox September collapse every 4th quarter of every game. Cowboys fans HAVE to crap on Sox fans or else they'd have to face their own tragic collapses head on.

Kaz -- I don't watch local network news anymore for reasons such as the one you cited. I heard (but did not see) that last week, one station LEAD with the story that Gisele had received a speeding ticket. On two days within the last week, Boston.com in the prime upper left area when the page loads had 1) "Gisele, son play" and 2)Tom Brady's hairstyles through the years. This is news? or even information that people care about? What a sad commentary about the average intelligence or interests of John and Jane Q. Public.

Yeesh is right, Kaz.

Living through the (uk)Sox hate/taunting down at my local!
The ONLY Aussie Yankees fan IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE F*CKING UNIVERSE works at my local reading/wi-fi pub. He takes the piss everytime I walk in with my Sox hat on (which is 95% of the time).
This mofo starts in on me today. I start hitting him with stats. He cowers, he wilts. I feel triumphant! Until I realise the sad reality of it all. But he doesn't know this.
Part time motherf*cker.

@Kaz, will miss your insightful tweets as I just quit that noise.

@Natalie & h.b,! YAY! I'm so excited too! Just introduced hubby and he's all-'This shit is FUNNY!'

@Jeff, Denis Leary tweeted that shit something lie 4 days ago. But under today's circimstances you are the frigging king of personality mushrooms...as I am no longer a twit-er.

How do you have a pressah when none of the "journalists" asked abbot Tito's option?

Win big or go home. nice to be home

Being a non twitter type, I claim independent parallel development of the notion. Had mushrooms been involved with the actual thinking of the notion then Leary and I would have been cosmically connected from the get go. And smiling about it.

Season's over. How can I fill all that previously occupied time? Hmmm. Conrad Murray trial? Amanda Knox trial? So many choices. What mindless times we live in. (Although I would recommend reading Douglas Preston's Monster of Florence to better understand the Italian justice system).

Foxy Knoxy (and her boyfriend) were just found not guilty at their appeal. Free to go and make millions.

I hope somebody had the foresight to have a private jet lined up and ready to go. They need to get her the hell out of that country as fast as possible.

How do you say CHA-Ching in Italian? Ahh....
A correction to playoff vs. NCAA minor league football the MFYs got the 5.54 rating. A meaningless ARI/MIL game drew less than half the audience of ARI/PHI NFL game. This in MFY territory. Being beaten by a "meaningless minor league game"? OUCH!
The rating for NYJ/BAL? 11.8!

Seriously, COD. Between that case and the West Memphis Three, I find it terrifying how easily one could find oneself in the wrong place at the wrong time, an outsider charged with a crime mostly due to xenophobia.

@Kaz - San Antonio, actually. But there are plenty of TX Ranger mutts down here. Odd, since SA is half as far from Houston as it is Dallas. Then again, one look at the Astros and I'd look for another team, too.

And a quick "How 'bout them 'Boys?" tends to quiet things down a touch. The Slate article was right. Go epic or go home. Although if Dallas keeps these 4thQ collapses up, it could get epic.

In re Dallas Cowboys, let's not forget that the two "epic collapses" are bookending two epic comebacks, cf. San Fran game and Redskins game. (Not that I'm counting or watching or anything... bwahahaha.)

Just to get some perspective on this side of the pond...

Has this been referred to as the Knox Case in the States?
Because it has been referred to as the Kercher/Knox/Italian Boyfriend Case depending on what the papers were shooting for here.

Though this might be due to the fact that Miss K lived literally less than 5 minutes from my flat. Obvious slant in the reporting there...

@Natalie, because you lived here when it happened and lived there for the acquittal did you see a major difference in the reporting? I mean, it's not like they wanted to fry her over here, but they certainly weren't kind.

Can't wait to see the papers tomorrow...

Pseudo, the spin here is that she was completely railroaded. Very friendly press toward her and her family. (With the exception of The Daily Beast which believes she did it.)

If you followed the case here, you want her out of Italy asap.

Hey, any of you notice that the MFY are facing elimination tonight with Burnett on the hill?

We must find our joy where we can.
