A total eclipse of our hearts

Doug:
Memo the the Red Sox offense: The government shutdown does not apply to you.

Bill:
You know, for the first 8 innings yestahday, I thought the Red Sox would surely find a win to end the streak.

Doug:
Met too, but that thinking turned out to be a total Kloppenburg.

Bill:
Oddly, I find myself not feeling as totally morose ovah an 0-6 staht as I would have thought.

Doug:
That's called "being in shock."

Bill:
Maybe. But I can't help but look at the bright side.

Doug:
There's a fucking bright side? Do pray tell.

Bill:
One, Lestah out-pitched Carmona. Two, as Pinto points out, despite the 0 and 6, the Red Sox eithah pitched well enough or hit well enough in five of the game to win.

Bill:
They just haven't been able to do both at the same time.

Doug:
Dude, if that's the bright side then it's time to invest in compact fluorescents, because it's gonna be a dahk summah.

Will Theo drive in in a gorilla suit today??...and will it be named Ditka?

I've got all my clothing on backwards today to end this streak. Shirt, pants, codpiece, everything.

Yep, it's ass backwards today. Even Webby the RealDoll is doing her part.

Jason Stark had this stat today: of the 46 teams in history that started a season 0-6, only 6 finished with a winning record, and none of them won 90 games. So that's what they're up against. I say if they are going to disappoint us let's get it out of the way now rather than the normal tease us till August then fade.

reminds me of a quote from ryan freel a few years back, to the effect of:

"well, you know, for the last few games, we couldn't get on the same page. the pitching would be great and the bats wouldn't be there, or we'd be hitting and struggling on the mound. today, it all came together - we both stank."

season starts for reals today.

no team ever overcame a 0-3 hole in a pennant series.

until they did.

If this were a pennant series they'd be gone-I'm just sayin'

Here's a father who has his priorities in proper order:

Bring out your dead.

No problem. It's too nice a day for a loss to the Yanks. The streak ends today. I predict that the Sox win by AT LEAST 6 runs!!!

Let's keep the streak going! 0-7 here we come! WHOOO!

(I've tried everything else, so it's time for the reverse gooch!)

I'm secretly predicting a Yankees 2 of 3 series win...gettin' that reverse jinx goin'.

All these empty bases
Tried so hard to fill.
Will we win a game some day?
I pray to God we will.
We used to win a few games
But this year it's just nil
It's rolling like a rockslide down a hill.

Our jinxed condition. Indeed.

Turnaround Red Sox
Turnaround Red Sox
Turnaround, every now and then I know
you'll never be the team you always you wanted to be

at this point, wouldn't yanks taking 2 of 3 be a positive sign?

Now nothing's impossible, I've found for when my chin is on the ground,
I pick myself up, dust myself off, and start all over again.
Don't lose your confidence if you slip, be grateful for a pleasant trip,
And pick yourself up, dust off, start over again.

Work like a soul inspired until the battle of the day is won.
You may be sick and tired, but you be a man, my son.
Will you remember the famous men who have to fall to rise again,
So take a deep breath, pick yourself up, start all over again.

At least all the pinkhatters are gone now, right? So there's that.

C'mon bunkies-turn those frowns upside down ;)

At least you should be able to take some solace that the first win will come against the GBYs, probably today.

Billy Marty tries for the reverse gooch! >br>

The real season starts today, lads. Go Sox!

I'm nervous. This is the point when we learn something about this team's psychological makeup. The mental mistakes - looking at you, Darnell & Jason - are not encouraging, and if the Sox give away more outs this weekend, it'll be hard to believe that they've got playoff mental makeup, even if they have 90-win talent still.

Thanks for the link!

Thanks HB for sticking some Bonnie Tyler in my head and bringing back memories of those awesome 6th grade dances...about as awkward as our base running.

Every now and then I fall apart.

Man, I hope the crowd doesn't boo when they take the field.

I didn't just hear that 2-run double.

I did just hear that Destroyah Pedroia HR though!

Thanks for the link Bob. Hilarious.

Down 3-1 Lackey not looking good. When is the last time a Sox catcher has thrown out a runner?

It took me awhile to realize this, but Brian McGrory has it right:
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2011/04/08/0_6_a_perfect_start_for_red_sox_fans/?p1=Features_link5

Just like Kevin Millar said before game 4, "We'll be alright... we just don't make it easy on ourselves."

I'm not a violent person but how has someone (namely LC) not run onto the field and removed Lackey???

6-6 now...why is fucking Lackey still in the game?!

Apparently the concept of a clean inning escapes him.

As much as you all are hating on Lackey, here's the silver lining:

He's doing better today than he did in Texas so his trend line is heading in the right direction!

Manny retires.

The Scarlett Johansson look-alive baby sitter took the 7 1/2 year old 'Sox fan was taken to the Justin Beiber (?) film yesterday. When Beiber performed at Madison Square Garden wearing a Yankees hat, the SYOSF stood up in the cirema and booed. Bless him.

C'mon Jenks.

Yazbread, you mean Manny "retires." Seems there's a bit of a hidden reason behind his decision.

Anyway, have a great weekend all. Hopefully we'll have something fun to yak about on Monday.

Finally.

Whew...;bout time...

YAY! Awesome hotdog!

Pre-Monday happy yak is encouraged.

Now that's more like it...

sdu, that is fantastic! give that lad a high 5 for me (nice bit of parenting on your part)

You see? It was a setup.

The Sox went down 0-6 just to make our first win be that much more embarrassing for the MFYs.

Right?

Also, if you guys want to get the best pictures of the duck boats tomorrow to celebrate our first win, be sure to show up downtown early. I hear it's gonna be a mob scene.

You're welcome.
