From land to land

Bill:
You know the best thing about knowing that aftah championship games the losing team's pre-printed "champions" clothing gets donated to those in need?

Mike:
That the tired, the poor, the huddled masses get a chance at new clothing for the first time in their wretched lives?

Bill:
Well, there's that but what's even bettah is thinking that somewhere in some fah off 3rd World cornah of the globe, one of these homeless, tempest-tost souls is wearing a "2004 NY Yankees ALCS Champions" t-shirt.

Mike:
Speaking of fah flung cornahs of the globe, how cool is it that the Red Sox scouting staff is finding New Zealand softballahs to give a chance to?

Bill:
While it's highly improbable, I'd love to see this kid make it just so that we could one day bring a sign to Fenway that says...

Be Ware
Te Were

Comments

I would totally love to go to NZ for a baseball game, but I'm guessing the teams roped into doing it would not be so into the idea.

glad to see sdu is keeping busy "down there".

I know, Australia is not the same place as NZ, but closer than I am. I'm ready for a Tasmanian catcher, as well.

geographically,

lc

ps, it's MFTruckDay

Shirt should probably read:

Be ware
Te Wera

I just hope he comes here so we can watch him and Papi do the Maori Haka before every game.

That would be so badass.

By the way, I'm liking this kid more and more. From his Black Sox profile page:

If you could invite four famous people to dinner who would they be?

Bob Marley, Jack Black, Taika Waiti, Christopher Wallace (Biggie Smalls)

A few years ago (well, more than a few), I started a clothing drive at the ad agency where I worked. The goal was to collect as many T-shirts emblazened with people's former agency names as possible. Then we donated all the shirts to a local shelter. Soon, every homeless person you saw on the streets was wearing a Hill Holliday shirt, or an Arnold shirt, or a Mullen shirt. It was f-ing hilarious.

Happy Truck Day, Everyone!

This goes to show how out of it I am this year... I missed having a Truck Day strip for the first time ever.

Ugh.

If anybody notes what time the Truck hits the road, please post (there is nothing on redsox.com). I figure it'll hit Maryland 7 hours or so later. Hoping to feel a breath of Spring as it passes bye!

Steve-
they must be waiting for the check to clear from CVS/Giant Glass/Stop & Shop/Jordan's/sponsor to be named later before allowing it to pull away from gate B

I was close. From FB: "Hey Red Sox Nation! Who is ready for Spring Training? Today is Truck Day presented by JetBlue. We are leaving Fenway and heading south to Fort Myers at 12 noon!"

Don't worry about it h.b.

[cue up music, faded Ken Burns panning shot of a beer stained 1918 post card, and John Chancellor says ...]

but the park [reverb on] REMEMBERS [reverb off]

It came all the same.

After last year's debacle, I honestly just quit caring about Truck Day in the least, especially after Kaz's point was made. It was our thing, the front office co-opted it, and now it isn't.

Good point about how Truck Day just isn't quite the same anymore.

It used to be a tongue in cheek, goofy, fan insider thing. Now it's an official "event."

Can't blame the FO for recognizing the chance to brand/market the concept, but it does make less enthused overall.

Truck Day presented by JetBlue?

That's like Hamburger Day presented by Gorton's.

I don't mind that they're finding a way to make a few bucks. Good for them, but it's changed the relationship between the event and how I respond to it. At the rate things are going, I fully expect the Front Office to start charging tickets for fans to watch the trucks pull out. Maybe start setting up jumbotrons in the parking lots and charging 200 bucks a person to watch Spring Training like they did at the Super Bowl.

I understand the money thing, and as an unabashed capitalist I wish them all the best in their quest for it, but money changes the relationship I have with the team (and the brand). I just wonder if any of the suits ever consider that, or if they just look at the fanbase as a big piggy bank.

Quit your whining or I'll remove my 5,000 tickets from Stub Hub.

Thanks Larry, it's nice to know somebody reads my shit comments.

retrospectively,

Truck You by See Mo' Green (Monster)

I see you drivin' outta town for the team I love
And I'm like, "Truck yoooou!"
I guess buying the RSN card wasn't enough
I'm like, "Truck you and Truck Larry, too!"

Said if I was richer, I'd buy box seat tickets
Hah, now ain't that some shit?
(Ain't that some shit?)
And although there goes gloves and bats,
I still wish you the best...
...With a "Truck yoooou!"

Now look here, I'm sorry
I double-parked my Ferrari
But that don't mean you can't get around there
I guess that's Papi's XBox
and Pedroia's Atari
By the way "sponsored by JetBlue" ain't fair

I pity the fool that falls in love with you
Red Sox is a gold digger
Just thought you should know, Nava

"There's no Kiwi's in baseball"
- Christina Aguilera version of a line from A League of Their Own.

...or they'd be reamed by now ;O

Happy Truck Day's Eve!
