It goes on and then it goes around again
Bill:
Sigh. Here go again.
Bill:
Sox staht to surge, Sox revert to the mean.
Doug:
It's been the same pattern ovah and ovah all season.
Bill:
Wince. Gathah. Repeat.
Doug:
Throw in a random injury.
Doug:
And that's the entiah season in 30 seconds.
Bill:
Fade to black, roll credits.
Doug:
The end.
//Wince, gathah, repeat.//
Excellent, H.B.

Seriously. I want to remain optimistic, but am pretty sure I am going to be dealing with an NYC parade of smug (soupcon of pity thrown in for good measure) this Fall. Gah.

What Bob said. Brilliant!

It's always fun to watch as the Sox move closer to fourth place than first.
On the plus side, at least Papi isn't totally sucking this year for y'all.
There's always next year! =P

Yes, brilliant, h.b.

I don't think the Sox will fade and disappear before the end of the season, if only because I have "that feeling" that this season will end memorably bad. I'm reasonably sure the Sox will go to the last three games against the yankees at home needing a sweep to make the playoffs. The options are:
- get blown out/swept by a combined score of 57-2 (est.)
- win the first two games with improbable comebacks, blow a sizable lead to lose the last game
- sweep the yankees, enter the playoffs, and find some balls-in-a-vice way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

It's like watching Old Yeller. It's a nice dog, no, it's a really nice dog, and what? Shoot it? Really? Balls.

So since signing Beckett for $82 M, he is 3 and 3. So when did he turn into Carl Pavano?
And we have him under contract for three more years.

And yet they are 1GB of the 3rd best record in the AL. You folks revel in the troubles.
Posted by: andy | 2010.08.20 at 12:52 PM
and yet that 3rd best record gets you nothing.
We revel because we're fans...fanatics. Get it - we're not reasonable or sensible - just fans.

3rd best record is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
Posted by: yazbread | 2010.08.20 at 01:44 PM
@yb Really? I think I'd prefer a good poke in the eye with a sharp stick to the schadenfreude and personal angst we will have to deal with in not even making the playoffs. Just me?
Posted by: Natalie | 2010.08.20 at 03:25 PM
Ture, but it is somewhat satisfying that our triple A team is better than most mlb clubs...

The season is over when I find the D.O. / Remy conversations about Wally and the Heidi Watney stumblations more entertaining than the on-field movements.
The 2010 Red Sox have jumped the shark.

My fellow counrymen are about to elect a party and a prime minister whose primary positions are (i) that climate change is bullshit and (ii) 'turn the back the boats' (which is code for "I don't like darkies").

Sweets of sin,
Pray for us.

and Beckett sucks. Shut it down.
Posted by: soxdownunder | 2010.08.20 at 05:34 PM
SDU, do you guys have a recall vote of any kind?
I have a feeling you'll need it as soon as the first boat that gets turned back goes under an hour later and everyone aboard dies.

So Dustin's back on the DL. Great start to the weekend. (That, and the 3 hour meeting I was just in.)
Anyway, have a great weekend all. Hopefully we'll have something fun to yak about on Monday.

Kaz, this is how sick they are:

As said, pray for us.

Yah I'll second Nat's sharp stick to the eye prefrence. The Mrs. and I have a friend who is a DIEHARD Rangers fan and even she is wowed by the fact that even with our never ending injury bouts we still are hanging on...
Like she said the other night, "The Sox have the best team on the DL for sure..."
And like Sonomasox said: What good is that third place record in the AL if it ends up getting us a one way trip to the couch to watch some National League team blow their homefield advantage in the WS this year?
Posted by: thompson13x | 2010.08.20 at 07:33 PM
well, it's a good day if you have Lyle Overbay on your fantasy squad. Fuck.
Posted by: sonomasox | 2010.08.20 at 08:06 PM
Confusin' but not amusin'. The comments today reek of CHB at his best. Andy and Steve are correct. We have an outstanding record with more players hurt than any other four teams combined. Our triple A team IS better than most MLB teams and Beckett is not going to be this ineffective for the rest of his contract. Lighten up-- there are 39 games to go.
