He's only a phone call away...
Marty:
Well, Bill, are you ready for the opening of the summer's most anticipated blockbuster -- Boston Massacre, The Sequel?
Marty:
It' in 3-D!
Bill:
Jeez, I dunno, Mahts, the way Jetah is lumbering around in the slot it feels a lot more like watching a George Romero film, "Bronx of the Living Dead."
Marty:
That's ironic coming from a team that'll be starting Mike Lowell.
Bill:
Yeah, Mahty, the same Mike Lowell the Yankees coveted but couldn't have because Lowell would rathah retiah than play in the PrickStripes.
Marty:
My, my, it's surprising how much hubris you can generate when you're 6 games back and fading.
Bill:
Why not, Mahts, 6 games back aftah the injuries we've had?
Bill:
Think about it Mahty, since our last meeting the Triple-A fielding Red Sox have gone 42-27 and the vaunted $206 million dollar Yankees have gone, wait for it...
42-26.
Bring on the sad trombone,
Waah Wah Wah Waaaaaaah ♫
Bill:
Oh, and then there's those pesky Rays, right, Mahts, $206 million gets you half a game ovah Tampa Bay?!
Bill:
I know we're in a recession and all, Mahts, but who knew money would have so little value, eh?
Marty:
OK, Callaghan, let's see how your trombone is doing come Monday morning, something tells me you're going to playing a rusty one.
all this trombone talk has me sliding into the bass clef.
tunelessly,
lc

You know, I can't even muster any enthusiasm for the series this weekend. It's not them, it's me. I'm just not into this team.

i typically on issue the NSFW for pics. There was no pic of the trombone, was there? If so, sorry.

Playing the rusty trombone is going to be hard to do what with all the Yankee fans' Moms holding first chair. Make that first basement chair.

May I just mention in a shameless bid for sympathy that for the second time in 4 years I will be in a wedding during the entirety of the Sox Yanks series. This time pale pink and NJ as opposed to teal and Boulder, but same difference- no game action for Nat. I swear to God when I get married all due attention will be paid to the baseball calendar in scheduling it.....

Traveling to Boston next week - 35th high school reunion, visiting dead people, etc. Any recommendations on a hotel in the heart of the city? Looking for charm and something that is not a tourist mecca.
Posted by: yazbread | 2010.08.06 at 11:59 AM
Hey yazbread:
I'm also having my 35th HS reunion this year. Arlington High for me. And Yaz was my boyhood idol (although I have to admit I never ate a slice of Yazbread).
The Langham Hotel is nice but it's in the financial district and not really near anything good. Depending on how much money you want to spend, the Four Seasons is nice, as is the Westin or the Colonnade, which have better locations near the Boston Public Gardens or Copley Square. Go Class of '75 !!!
And as for the Sox, I'm more into this team than COD. The ptching match-ups are good for three of the four games this weekend and if we're fortunate to take 3 of 4, then we'll be within striking distance. While it's definitely been hard rooting for the Quarduple A Red Sox, the fact that they've done so well despite their injuries should garner some affection, no?

Yazbread, try this place. It's in my neighborhood (the North End). I've had friends stay there before, and they've always liked it.

Well, now it's back to the meetings. I guess the 8:30-12:30 meeting wasn't enough torture.

Friends of mine come to town and stay here, I've heard a lot of good things about this joint:

Unlike COD, I can't stop watching this team...However with all the injuries the Sox have had it is akin to watching autoracing for the crashes.

@Natalie, how about this one- Royal blue, sweetheart neck, backless satin with a mullet train. Oh! And lace overlay! Hideous incarnate.

yazbread:
- the Boston Harbour Hotel is real nice; a bit pricey but great views of the harbour and a very short walk to Petes Pub to see bob.
- personally, I like the Commonwealth which is just near Fenway and boasts views of the grand old girl. Reasonably priced and kinda quaint in a creepy-kid-on-tricycle-roaming-the-corridors (REDRUM)sort of a way. Probably full this weekend.
- I thought the Westin Copley Plaza was pretty awful - no soul (sorry Larry).

yaz, I'd say Liberty, Nine Zero, or Onyx. The reason I say the last 2 is that you could use this corporate code ( GBP1707 ) to get an extra 10% off of their lowest rates.

Every time your "Characters" complain about the Yankee's payroll, it makes you, the SAWX and the whole sorry fucking town of Boston look like the two-bit, bush league little bitches you are.
If it wasn't for the Yankees, the SAWX would have the highest payroll in baseball. So what do you - er I mean your "characters" do? You, er I mean they bitch about the ONLY team that spends more. You are pathetic. You, this blog, your characters and the entire city of Boston. Just pathetic...
