It's been a hard season's strip...

Hart Brachen (the dude who writes the Soxahoix):
Dear Readers,

As we head into the Labor Day Weekend and ride the wave of the good karma from beating the Rays 2 of 3, I'm going to take a page out of the Manny Ramirez playbook and take a little rest. (Though I will pass on the chorionic gonadotropin injections.)

Hart
Have a great Labor Day Weekend.

See you back here on Tuesday for a new strip (and see you in the comments in the meantime).

Is the Trop now our bitch? I hope so.

I'm going to take a page out of the Manny Ramirez playbook...

Gee HB, hope your grandmother is feeling better soon. :-)

I'll take this opportunity to thank you for all your labors to entertain, enlighten and inform this bunch of crazies with this creepy strip. Here's wishing all a restful, happy Labor Day weekend. Enjoy, everybody!

Have a great Labor Day weekend, all (or as we write over here Labour Day). Our version (August Bank Holiday) was last weekend, so I'll be toiling away at the office on Monday. Drink a beer and have some BBQ for me!

toot, toot

lc

And thanks (sincerely), hb, I now have Hard Day's Night stuck in my head. Not a bad song to hum along to this breezy fall-like London afternoon...

how many btu's does that grill throw off again, hb?

Shoulda been a sweep, but 2 out of 3 is nice, especially the way the Sox have played there lately.

Great weekend, all. My boss is off until Wed, and coincidentally, I think I am too ;-) Bloody Mary cart, here we come

And let us not forget that college football season started last night.

Hopefully Tuesday we'll have something fun to yak about

I can't wait until Tuesday!

HB, I hope you and everyone else has a great Labor Day weekend. Hopefully my labor day weekend starts off with a bang. Going to see the Red Sox at the Cell tonight. Hope Byrd can pull another rabbit out of his hat.

Going to the Cell tomorrow. We now have an empty nest and our new motto is 'stay active or die'.

Who's the frigging advertising genius that scheduled a 2.5 hour meeting starting at 8:30 on a Friday before a three-day weekend.

Oh, I know who: Danielle.

Oh, you young account person, you know not the wrath of a know-it-all drunk with a passion for bar fights and a taste for thyroid gland sauteed in butter.

Oh, and I guess Clay pitched okay last night.

Damn Danielle.

2 out of 3 at the Torp is nice and all, but we ain't going anywhere in October if Beckett doesn't come around.

Bob, break out the Matt Herges trivia on her. When she can't come up with it, look down your nose smugly and know that you're better than her.

If she does come up with the answer, dump Abby and marry Danielle tomorrow! That's a keepah.

It's okay, Steve in MD, we'll have a ready-to-go Matsuzaka to replace Beckett. Then we can send Beckett to the bullpen to come out in the 4th inning when he seems to want to start striking out the side for 4 innings...and we'll avoid his 20 HR first 3 innings of the games that way.

yazbread,

when do you get into town? or are you already Chi-town? Looks like a great weekend here. I've got 2 boys under 6 and my motto is "What ain't broke now will be soon."

Yazbread,

If your looking for a bite to eat and a beer or 2 before the game without breaking the bank, I highly recommend Jimbo's.

hb--I echo a couple of others (and likely everyone except the obese one who lives in his mother's basement)

Thank you for your hard work which entertains us all and gives us a little break from the sometimes daily grind.

I'm breaking out early. The concertina wire is dull and Danielle makes a great spoon for digging a tunnel through my poster of Exene Cervenka.

Have a great weekend all.

Hopefully we'll have something fun to yak about on Tuesday.

Or Monday, if anybody's up to it.

Ditto here. Thanks so much h.b. Always entertaining. Enjoy the weekend everyone, time to get it started.

yazbread,

I agree on Jimbo's. I have been thrown out of there many times.

Thanks for the sentiments and thanks for your readership and your comments.

It's really great how all of you have become the real flesh and blood "Soxaholix" and have created a camaraderie that is exactly what I try to pay homage to with the characters.

We live near South Bend and it does look like a great weekend. Tickets from Stubhub (don't ask, but recall 'a fool and his money'). My wife said 'any obstructions' and I said 'only Big Papi in the on deck circle'. I'll try the hard sell on Jimbos but will probably end up in Chinatown. Hope to observe suicidal Irish fans on the drive back home.

Thanks kaz, I'm feeling better already...

yaz, as long as you don't have to deal with any maniacal Oregon Duck football players you should be okay...

It's really great how all of you have become the real flesh and blood "Soxaholix" and have created a camaraderie that is exactly what I try to pay homage to with the characters

So, the characters aren't real, but WE are?!? Shit. Who Knew??

I knew, BWF, but I didn't want to spoil the surprise.

does that mean that hb is really Roger Korby ?

Mind your own business, BWF. I'm sick of your half-breed interference! Do you hear!?

I thought hb was getting all emotional and shit, then he put a fat smackdown on BWF. The world is right again.

We're real? Try telling that to Deckard.

Hah. Not so much a real smack down as a reference to the Dr Richard Korby episode of STOS that BWF alluded to earlier.

That, BTW, is possibly my fave STOS epi. Definitely in my top 5.

My bad. I'm a TNG guy meself.

wasn't it also the first episode to feature the curse of the red shirt?

"City on the Edge of Forever" is up there, too, IMO

Yaz, do you partake in what I hear are the excellent brews from Three Floyds sine they are up in your neck of the woods?

Just checked in - the game is rather painful. Hopefully I get to see a win tomorrow. Local beers of choice are Bells, New Holland, and Upland. But it looks like I need to give Three Floyds a shot.

While you're giving things a shot, yaz, please also shoot the Byrd.

Good thing we got rid of that Kotsay guy. Man, what a shit stain on a roster, right? Amirite?

Should be 95,000 mad people there. Wish me a better day at the MCG than Yaz is having at Comiskey Park (4-0, bottom 6).

Did anyone get the number of that Chicago El?

What!? We have to play them AGAIN!?

My pictures from the Cell on Saturday. Not much in the way of action to shoot. Ortiz is pathetic. I can't see him back on the team next year.

Fantastic shots yaz!! Were you very close or do you have a v. big lens? BTW, losing 3 out of 4 to the White Sox is unacceptable.

SDU - Great seats (row 8) but also a 70-300 lens (huge lens to compensate for ... well nevermind).
