Wishing a Merry Christmas to Soxaholix Everywhere
Bill:
I don't know if it's a sign of being jaded or just supremely cocksure, but the
Yankees signing Teixeira
has left me with an overwhelming sense of "meh, whatevah."
Mike:
I think it's the lattah, total confidence.
Mike:
I mean a paht of me just wants to chuckle at the enormity of the Yankees fear and
desperation.
Bill:
And let's always remembah what Theo said way back in 2003 — We'll nevah outspend the Yankees, so we'll just have to out smaht them.
Mike:
So fah, smahts 2, spending nil.
Bill:
And, oh, yeah, almost forgot — Celtics in first place, Bruins in first place, Patriots in first place.
Mike:
We are living in the epicentah of the greatest sports city the world has evah known.
Bill:
Seriously, we've got your gold, frankincense and myrrh right heah.
Merry Christmas to you, too! But seriously, Pats are second in their conference behind Miami since the Dolphins have a better conference record...

MFYs spend big money but winning it all is as difficult as bulls-eyeing womp rats in a T-16.
Bah humbug to everyone.

I spotted this in the comments from the Bangor (ME) Daily News:
"The Yankees represent every lame-ass guy who has ever paid for sex; yeah you got some, good job, but you had to pay for it."

Peace and good to cheer to all!
Let the MFY's sign Manny and Kobe and Favre and Putin and that Mugabe guy and then feel real humiliation to miss another WS ring.

The Yankees are the equivalent of a fat ugly girl needing to buy a guy a car just to get him to take her to the prom.
Tush-error would have made the RS better, but I was never sold on the guy. I got the sense that he was a bad guy in the clubhouse, but couldn't point to any evidence.
The Yankees have no soul. Good luck on ya boys.
Best of Holiday Greetings, kids.
See you in the Series.

Yea, but then what does that make the C's?

The Celtics drafted intelligently, perservered through through some awful seasons in order to develop those very good young players and then traded them for two all-stars to complement the youngsers (Rondo and Perkins) they kept. They also stuck with Doc Rivers even though he lost a lot of games because he was developing those players into tradeable assets. The Yankees fired Torre, got the city and state to finance their new ballpark and then threw money at free agents. To their credit, they actually have managed to reduce their payroll this year -- so far.
I feel like the Sox have a pretty good shot at the division if they stay healthy despite all the Yankeebucks. And I'm anxious to see which young player will jump out of the minor leagues to surprise everyone this year.
Merry Christmas to all the Soxaholix.

The C's won...Yanks still have an o-fer when spending like the Dubai prince.

Merry Christmas to all. Except Steinbrenner. Frack him.
Looking forward to the press in NY eating the Yankees alive when they fail to live up to expectations.

Prediction: Yanks to win a hundred games, take the division and lose in the first round of the playoffs or in the ALCS. WTF, it's Christmas.
Happy holidays to all soxaholix.
Tnx hb.

Not upset that Tex went to MFY. Youk is just as good/better and Lowell has a good year or two left if his hip is right. Yank's bottom of the order is still so-so at best, because they still have to play overpaid stars in decline like Damon, Posada and Jeter.

That's not too shabby, kids. I like our chances for the next couple years, esp with our pitching. CC doesn't scare me, and AJ is the next Pavano. Now 2011 is another thing, but they'll come up with something.
Merry Christmas to all who lurk, reside and otherwise contribute here. Nothing but the best of health and happiness for ya

He was heard to exclaim as he drove out of sight, "Merry Christmas to all, and the Yankees just bite."
Huh. So we don't get Texiera. I guess we'll just have to play the MVP runner-up at first next to the MVP at second. Oh well.

Merry Christmas to all and to Sox Nation a wonderful '09

/Now 2011 is another thing, but they'll come up with something./ His name is Mauer, Joe Mauer...
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
PS: Is it just me of did the refs seem to call a foul every time the Celts touched a Laker, and nothing at the other end? One foul shot in the whole first half?

Happy Boxing Day all

My thorough enjoyment of this site is wholly complemented by everyone's concept of the English language. Not for nothin', kids, but we have the best 'up the middle' that's been put together since God was young. And He knows, for sure, that the Yankees can't buy any better. So do we. Happy Days,everyone....and keep on keepin' on...

Packers 6 and 10 - woo hoo!!!!
Go Pats.
Posted by: soxdownunder | 2008.12.28 at 10:42 PM
Best up the middle?
Pedroia, obviously excellent. You have a shortstop? I know you don't have a catcher. Ellsbury has a lot of potential, but he's not "the best."
As for paying for it, yeah because the Sox don't have a payroll four times as big as the Rays, didn't pay $50 million for the signing rights to Dice-K, and because they brought Papi, Manny, Drew and Lowell up through the system. The Yanks lowered their payroll this year, and they'll do the same again next year.
Me knows thou doth protest too much. See the Globe poll on this.
