Right to work (for the Yankees)
Doug:
Hey, who needs the NHL?
Doug:
I mean if you want witness random thuggery, we've got union protests.
Mike:
Speaking of wanting to punch something, Youks to the Yanks.
Doug:
12/12/12, dude.
Mike:
Hopefully, somebody will have something fun to yak about on January 1, 3001.
Dammit. I don't want to hate Kevin Youkilis.

I don't know how these guys do it, go from the Sox to the Yanks or vice versa. In my job (that I have been with for 9 years now) we have 1-2 serious competitors, and to imagine jumping ship and going to one of those two evil companies is unthinkable. Just doesn't sit right. Then again, I'm not making millions of dollars in a career that is mercilessly shot, either. So... I just answered my own question. Move along, nothing to see here...

Uh, short, not shot.

Also, Steven Crowder is an asshat and I am jealous of the "union thug" who got to punch his smug, sanctimonious, self-righteous face. For a good laugh, read this: http://jezebel.com/5944747/in-case-you-havent-barfed-today-here-comes-the-stupidest-fox-news-article-of-all-time.

This brings to mind the Seinfeld bit about how you root for the laundry, not the players. One can only hope he gets a locker next to Joba. But seriously, what's with the MFY grabbing Sox players with personality (Boggs, Damon, Youk)? To make up for the fact that the few that make it through their system to the team are bland and boring?
Posted by: ponch | 2012.12.12 at 09:43 AM
A player making the league minimum accumulates almost two million dollars in four years. It takes somebody making fifty grand 40 years to reach that number. That's why I don't buy the "short career" nonsense.

Natalie's comment inspired me to give money to the "reward fund."

Of course, I'm sure all this violence is because Sarah Palin once used bull's eye targets on map.

I understand Youk grabbing the $12 million and all but seeing him in pinstripes is just going to suck. I will now light myself on fire.
Posted by: soxinsix | 2012.12.12 at 10:03 AM
If it helps, all of my mfy loving aquaintances are miserable about youk joining them. Apparently seeing someone who tries and cares about play instead of looking good is not welcome.
hb, i remember how completely disgusted i was after bush won second term. Buck up, It will pass.
And Natalie, good link to a barf fest. Dude will be fucking his secretary or his intern within 10 years. He thinks his wedding night was magical? I remember my first time too. Magical. Getting laid! In retrospect, it was uncomfortable across those bucket seats. And it was a rather quick event now that i think about it.

Oh, I'm pretty bucked up. Passing the right to work bill in MI of all places is huge.

Natalie, I actually thought "shot" career was what you meant to write...Freudian slip?
Posted by: Jack Wrong | 2012.12.12 at 10:22 AM
I'm calling it. By 11/12/13, we'll be singing a different tune. You heard it here first.

H.B.: New normal Obama second term investment idea: California muni bonds...1) Brown can't stand up to (and likely has no intention to do so) the public employee unions in CA, they're way too powerful. 2) When O steps in to bail out the State of CA in the next 12-24 months, holders experience similar gains to mortgage backed securities when the Fed started QE 1.

So, Kevin is playing in New Youk.
OK, I'll move along...

Oh, and this:
"... Meticulous attention should be paid to the special relationships and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the government. All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations ... The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for ... officials ... to bind the employer ... The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives ...
"Particularly, I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the functions of any organization of government employees. Upon employees in the federal service rests the obligation to serve the whole people ... This obligation is paramount ... A strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent ... to prevent or obstruct ... Government ... Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government ... is unthinkable and intolerable."

Does Youk get booed in his first Fenway at bat?
Posted by: COD | 2012.12.12 at 11:14 AM
I used to love him but Kevin Youkilis has now shown himself to be a fuckin' asshole. Period.
Posted by: vermonter | 2012.12.12 at 11:39 AM
Mafia and unions.. A fine analogy. They both had their day when they were the only ones doing what needed doing. Their day is past.
For Youk. Man i dont know how to treat him. The Valensox fed him a shit sandwich, so its not like he bolted for enemy lines on is own. Maybe i will just avert my eyes when i see him. Like running into an old pal who is playing with the crowd from across the tracks now. Laughing with the guys you hate. Love to be there for chat #1 tween he and the hut

No, COD, Youk does not get booed. It's not a Johnny Damon-type situation. He gave everything he had during the years he was here. What more could you ask of any ballplayer.

40-hour work week, overtime pay, vacations with pay, improved safety conditions ... anyone think employers came up with all that stuff voluntarily?
Posted by: JimLoomis | 2012.12.12 at 02:05 PM
Youk is definitely not to blame. He went to a right-to-play team, where his patience wasn't taxed for refusing to pay his respectful dues to the Man.
Posted by: Chops | 2012.12.12 at 02:09 PM
"wasn't" should be "won't be".
Posted by: Chops | 2012.12.12 at 02:09 PM
Hey, it could have been worse. It wasn't like we traded Youk for Slappy McBluelips.
Posted by: Steven | 2012.12.12 at 02:27 PM
I should form a creepy union of creepy Soxaholix readers and force all of you to pay dues to it.
Don't worry, I'd have your best interests in mind.
I bet you feel empowered already just thinking about.
Creepy readers unite!

So, it turns out 121212 is a good day to die. My 93 yr old grandmother passed away today. A long and good life it was.
But, to take a line from Paul the movie, "Lets lighten the mood shall we?" hb, i believe you have a unique union. You are both sole proprietor and lone employee. You have frequently fought with yourself over whether to keep the doors open, have in fact held a few lockouts, often grant vacations when your employee demands it whether the work is done or not, and are both paid too much and not at all. All you need now is a spokesman - bigbri?
And we, we are just creepy customers who lavish praise on you like you are a fucking Apple product. We dont really care whether you shit in your employees lunchbox or piss in your bosses coffee - though that would explain a few hiatuses. Or if you are actually typing away from a sweatshop in china. just keep supplying us with product. Thank you. Go unions, go management, etcetcetc.

Jeff, so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Thoughts with you and your family. Thankfully 93 years are a lot of memories to sustain you.

Now *THAT* made the day.
Thanks, Nat!

hb, Natalie finally found out where you are from... you either have great tits or you are a very pretty boy. The one without makeup is a dude, right?
