Waiting for the next opponent

After watching the Sox handle the Angels in 3 easy, Bill, despite his best efforts, is unable to keep his cocky in check…

Bill:
Ur Gonna Loo-Oose.
Clap.Clap. ClapClapClap.

Ur Gonna Loo-Oose.
Clap.Clap. ClapClapClap.

Marty:
----------

Bill:
Ur Gonna Loo-Oose.
Clap.Clap. ClapClapClap.

Marty:
Oh, so very erudite, CALLAGHAN, so very mature.

Bill:
We just swe-Ept!
Clap.Clap. ClapClapClap!

Marty:
Joke now, Bill, but mark my words. We are going come back and eviscerate Cleveland.

Then We Are Coming For You.

Bill:
Oooooh. Scaaa-ry.

Bill:
Is A-Rod going to single the Indians to death? Funny, I didn't know you could quote eviscerate unquote someone with a series of paper cuts.

Marty:
You know, Callaghan, I find it really hard to believe you're talking trash now after what went down this season. Remember that 14½ game lead you had? Yeah, you were full of bravado then but look what happened?

Bill:
What happened, Mahty? Who won the Division again?

Marty:
This Yankees team never quits.

Bill:
Yeah, never quits crying.

Bill:
So who's gonna be the new town criah when Steinbrennah fiahs Torre's ass.

Marty:
The Boss is an excellent motivator, Bill. The whole team rallied around Joe and will continue to.

Bill:
I've got to confess, Mahts, I'm happy to see Cleveland have to struggle a bit. They'll be nice and worn out with they hit the Fens on Friday.

Perfect. Perfect strip today.

LET'S GO RED SOX CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP
AL-SO RO-CKIES CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP

And better yet, Frank TV is only mere weeks away!!!

(gag)

Thankfully, no more Sox games on TBS. If I had to suffer through one more Frank TV ad, well, I was going to use my remote control to eviscerate my TV.

Recovering after my latest sports-stravaganza.

First, Red Sox-Angels Friday night (thanks MLB; the frigging game ended so late the bars were closed and the trains had stopped running).

Then, Patriots-Browns yesterday. BTW, what a bunch of douchebag fans the Browns brought with them. They were without a doubt the most arrogant a-holes I've encountered since, well, you know. A certain team that actually has reasons to be arrogant, but really should show more class every once in a while.

BTW, LL has contacted renowned entomologist Midge Bluetongue about "consulting" with the team if the Skanks beat Cleveland.

Hey, it's only twenty-eight million pro-rated. Much easier on the senile dude's wallet than you're making it to be.

Instead of a swarm of locusts as swarm of midges?

ALRIGHT good weekend, yesterday could have been a midge better if MFY had played down to their potential, but heck i can wait another night.

Topic for discussion: is anyone getting a little concerned with the seemingly non-stop partyin' going on as of late? Both the division clincher and the ALDS clincher resulted in a downpour of booze. I'm down with gettin' loopy - ask anyone in Stowe, I'm a champ - but I want my boys to be healthy as ever come this weekend (and the rest of october for that matter). Other than Wells throwing a perfect game while hungover, modern baseball has been cruel to the hangover. Don't ever want to read the article that all these celebrations were premature and self-defeating . . .

My hunch is Pap's BAC has not dipped below the legal driving limit in the past 10 days . . .

The one with th ump is just plain creepy. THe smiles are just wrong.

The bugs were biblical. Like a swarm of locusts sent by god to free the children of Israel form the evil Yank These empire

Well the little warm-up series is over. Now the Sox can rest while the Skanks and Indians duke it out. And yes it was a light hitting team. No power whatsoever. That still doesn't take away from Schill's performance yesterday. Nice job.

Bob, I am surprised that Brown's fans actually made the trip to Foxboro. They don't even sell out their own stadium after the NFL caved in to give them a team again.

Manny's hit Friday was a thing of beauty. What a game! I love those internet jukeboxes that let you play "Dirty Water" in the Denver bar after a Sox win.

/Hey, it's only twenty-eight million pro-rated. Much easier on the senile dude's wallet than you're making it to be./

True, but don't forget the 50% luxury tax the old guy has to pay on top of the $19 mil to Clemmons.

>>True, but don't forget the 50% luxury tax the old guy has to pay on top of the $19 mil to Clemmons

Beer sales from last night's game covered that.

Many thanks to Bill for saying that which I am, as of yet, unable to say for Karmic safety reasons.

Clemens looked like a pathetic, old man. I actually felt bad for the guy. It is just so clear that he shouldn't have made this comeback. It.Is.Over.

Our pitching staff now gets to sit back and rest up.

"They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast"

I refuse to cheer until the Tribe actually puts the MFY down for the count.

From what I gather, Steinbrenner has Alzheimer's or some form of dementia. So when I hear a pronouncement supposedly coming from him, I wonder who is behind the curtain. Has anyone actually seen him on TV recently? The most recent story states 'when reached by a reporter from the Record of Bergen County in New Jersey ...'. I think he's just being held up by the Comintern these days.

So I was saying to the wife during the Spanks game last night, ``Why would a guy like Joe Torre put up with that sort of abuse from Steinbrenner? Where's the pride?''

Torre, love him or hate him, has busted his hump for the old man. Real classy to issue ultimatums like that, George.

Sweep Caroline!!!

Hey, did I miss it or has the "surly but lovable" l.c. been absent around here for a while now?

Where is lou?

h.b.- I noticed the same thing... and his site 38cliches has not been updated since Sept 28th. I hope everything is okay...

This weekend was awesome. I think the highlight was a voicemail from my brother on Friday night ranting and raving about how screwed the Yanks got by the bugs and how unfair blah blah blah wah wah wah. I laughed myself silly... He hasn't returned my calls or messages since. Go Tribe!

Noticed the same thing. I hope he's surly but okay.

Nothing makes me happier than the lack of Skankee trollers on the site, as of late . . .

Ahhhhh . . . the sweet sound of silence.

[Though, have no fear, if the Yanks win tonight, they will emerge.]

Of course, I want the Yankees to lose.

It would suck to lose to the Yankees. However, it would be glorious to beat them. Greater risk, greater reward.

So, I don't really care a significant amount if the Yankees lose. As long as it goes five games and tires some pitchers out, I'm good.

Ugh wanting this series to go 5 games is the baseball equivalent of Goldfinger telling 007 all his world domination plans b/f turning the laser on. These are the MFY. They thrive on pressure. They get better when the laser is pointing at their crotch.

To wit: Cleveland should've showed more heart and knocked them off last night. And they should show some f-in BRAINS and throw Sabathia tonight, not "hold him back" in case there is a game 5. Go for the jugular. Maybe the "Brains of Cleveland" will surprise me though, and bring in C.C. after Byrd (sp?) gets knocked out in the 2nd or 3rd inning.

Another analogy: MFYs as vampires. Do you NOT drive the stake in, figuring that you can do it tomorrow? NO. KILL THE VAMPIRE. TONIGHT. PLEASE.

It would've been nice to see all the fairweather Yankee fans at the Toilet having to watch the Indians clobber them last night. Oh well. I am all for visiting team celebrations in front of monument park over there. Sabathia and Carmona are scary, and I almost wish we'd have to face Petitte, the only proven postseason horse the Yankees have, and 3 other miscreants than those two, the ALCS.

I guess at this stage it would be nice to see this go the 5 games and have the Indians pull it out, so that either CC or Fausto would have to sit out one of the first two at Fenway. But I don't like it that close.

Jim in Denver, you're absolutely right about Torre. Why put up with this? And Steinbrenner, why treat the guy this way, who's only delivered 12 straight postseasons and four more rings to your ballclub? You wanna fire him, then fire him, and say "Joe's been fantastic to us, but we wanted to go in a different direction". Torre's got a lot of class that he can put up with that fat senile scumbag trying to dig the hole right under him, in the playoffs, for pete's sake.

Nothing makes me happier than the lack of Skankee trollers on the site, as of late . . .

I do not troll. I probably posted every day last week, including Saturday and Sunday.. I'm not going anywhere. And I am 100% confident that the Yanks are going to win the World Series this year.

Looking at the pitching matchups, I think it shapes up like this:

Red Sox
Game 1: Beckett
Game 2: Dice-K
Game 3: Schill
Game 4: Wake/Lester (or Beckett on short rest if an elim game for Boston)
Game 5: Beckett (or Dick-K if Beckett pitched in game 4)
Game 6: Dice-K (or Schill if Beckett pitched in game 4)
Game 7: Schill (or Beckett if he also pitched in game 4)

Indians - if they win tonight
Game 1: Sabbathia
Game 2: Carmona
Game 3: Westcourt
Game 4: Byrd (or Sabbathia if an elimination game for Cleveland)
Game 5: Sabbathia (or Carmona if Sabbathia pitched in game 4)
Game 6: Carmona (or Westcourt if Sabbathia pitched in game 4)
Game 7: Westcourt (or Sabbathia if he also pitched in game 4)

Indians - if they win on Wednesay with Sabbathia pitching
Game 1: Carmona
Game 2: Westcourt
Game 3: Sabbathia
Game 4: Byrd (or Carmona on short rest if its an elimination game for Cleveland)
Game 5: Carmona (or Westcourt if Carmona pitched in game 4)
Game 6: Sabbathia
Game 7: Westcourt, (or Carmona if he pitched in game 4)

Yanks - noting that if they get in, Wang will have pitched tonight and Pettite on Wednesday, and assuming Clemmons is done.
Game 1: Wang on short rest for the second time in a row, or Hughes
Game 2: Wang on regular rest or Hughes
Game 3: Pettite
Game 4: Igawa? If an elim game, I have no f*ing idea. Would they go with Wang on short rest for a third straigt time?
Game 5: Wang on regular rest if he didn't pitch game 4, otherwise Hughes
Game 6: Pettite
Game 7: Wang, if he pitched game 4 and not game 5. If Hughes pitched game 4, Wang 5 and Pettite 6, then the choices are Hughes or Igawa - or does Joba get his first major league start?

All this assumes no furhter injuries, and that no one would start of less than 3 days rest.

I think that the Yanks' rotation against Boston will be:

Game 1: Hughes
Game 2: Wang
Game 3: Pettite
Game 4: Mussina
Game 5: Hughes
Game 6: Wang
Game 7: Pettite

Actually, it would be to our benefit if the series went 5 games. With either the skanks or the Tribe winning it. Sure, I want the tribe to put the whiners in their place and watch the shock and awe as the final out gets recorded. Then I want that POS TBS station to get a close up of the each and every player on the skanks bench, including torre. I want to see and taste the delicious tears right through the screen.

I cant help thinking that if they lose, and torre gets the boot, a few of the free agents will walk with him. Oh how glorious that will be.

btw, wont torre be forced to pitch wussina in a 7-gamer without the fat man?

I think it would be best for us in the future (2008 and beyond) if the Chokees go as far as possible, because then they will continue their profligate spending and stupid mercenary-hiring ways. If they had finished 3rd in the AL East, they would have fired all the hired guns, went to the farm system, and produced a new dynasty similar to the late 90s. I'm telling you: I don't know what to feel. I want them to lose horribly, but I want them to keep doing stupid shit like paying $19 million for a chubby old washout.

I'm going to go take a nap and think about this some more in an attempt to clear up the confusion.

Billy-

//I think that the Yanks' rotation against Boston will be://

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlEHkC8mfGU Happy Columbus Day -- what the hell am I doing at work? I should be home nursing this Sox hangover...

BILL YOU BASTARD YOU BETTER NOT HAVE JINXED IT!!!!!!!

//is anyone getting a little concerned with the seemingly non-stop partyin' going on as of late? Both the division clincher and the ALDS clincher resulted in a downpour of booze.//

I have had some monster hangovers in my day, but never one that lasted five days. They'll be fine. Besides, I'd guess than Sunday's celebration was more spraying and less imbibing.

//These are the MFY. They thrive on pressure. They get better when the laser is pointing at their crotch.//

Mythology. The MFY are something like 2-7 in playoff elimination games in the past few years.

Thanks for the link! I love that Cary Grant is a Yankees fan.

I think Jason O's absence may have more to do with a trip to New Orleans rather than the Yankees performance or lack thereof.

I have nothing to offer on the LC mystery, however.

I think LC just misses PT. This should bring him back. See you in the ALCS.

Win or lose, at least Francoma won't cry like Torre. He would have to be conscious to do that.

Love always,

Almost forgot -- clapclap.

If they had finished 3rd in the AL East, they would have fired all the hired guns, went to the farm system, and produced a new dynasty similar to the late 90s.

Come on da kine, you really think an organization where the GM has to convince the owner to invest in a farm system is suddenly going to wise up after 9+ years of buying talent, 6 of which (and hopefully now 7) have resulted in playoff futility? So long as Steinbrenner has the "win a world series this year, every year" mentality, developing young talent from inside the organization just won't happen. Steinbrenner looks at Jeter, Soriano, and Rivera and doesn't see one-time spring call-ups, but as fully-formed superstars that simply stepped onto the Yankee stage because that's how it's supposed to happen with the Yankees. He has no concept of the process of selecting a stable of good talent in the drafts and building them through the minors. He's someone who buys his own hype about the greatest sports franchise ever. That's the difference between a team that tries to win it all every year, and a team that just expects it.

Mythology. The MFY are something like 2-7 in playoff elimination games in the past few years.

2-2 since '05, 3-4 since in '03. Not exactly dominant, but they'll have both of those numbers over the .500 mark by Wednesday night.

Dewey's Kid, I'm thinking Big George isn't going to be in control next year.

Duh, Mussina. I just totally forgot about him. Of course the Yanks seem to have also...

OK. Feelin' it. This is gonna happen.

Kill the vampire. Stake thru the heart. Drive it deep. Knock them out.

Tonight, everyone in RSN should be an Indians fan.

IT'S Over!

THEEEEE YAAAANKEEESSS LOSE!

I'd love to see what Marty's got to say tomorrow morning...

Aw...Yankees.

Cya.

Hi-oooooooo!

Indians outscored Yanks 15-2 with 2-out hits.

The beast has been vanquished.

Memo to all yankee staff:
Pitchers and catchers report February 20th.
Have a nice winter.

I'm eating crow tonight.

The Yanks choked, and the Indians were dominant.

I can't be a hater. I hope that the rest of the postseason is exciting and that the best team wins.

This strip was already wonderful, but this evening's events add a new level of greatness.

Starting pitching. That's still the issue, as far as I can see. Great run in the regular season, though...I mean that.

Choked? I'd call it a pounding by a much better team.

very VERY funny to see a middle aged guy going all stilwell angel
