Today's strip would be better if I could just settle in

Hello third place …

Mike:
Embree says they "just have to get settled in and get comfortable."

Doug:
Of course, I mean it's not like 6 fucking weeks of Spring Training and the entire month of April is enough time to get settled in and get comfortable. You can't fucking rush this comfort shit is what I always say.

Mike:
Yeah, by all means take as long as you need to reach a propah comfort level. Leading the division is so fucking overrated anyway.

Doug:
And what of the leaving a season-high 13 men on base and hitting just 3 for 16 with runners in scoring position?

Mike:
Hey, it's a big fucking ballpahk ovah there in Detroit. You have to keep it in perspective, Francona says. If they were at Fenway, a lot of those long flies would have been homahs.

Doug:
Yeah, and if only they played on the moon, bloop singles would turn into, er, moon shots …

First off, we need to stop worrying
about the fuckin Yankees and focus
on the Detroit Tigers and whoever the
fuck we're playing. and... Kevin Millar
needs to spend less time signing Franklin
Mint World series collector's plates and
more time working on his game...

and, is it too much to ask to develop
ONE FREAKING POSITIONAL STARTER from our
minor league system?? well, besides trot
nixon...

rant over...

The odds against the reigning world champs loading the bases, with no outs and the 2-3-4 batters up against a 23 year old pitcher with a 5+ ERA and not scoring a single run are like…astronomical.

The odds are like “Paula Abdul calling an ex-convict’s house, leaving raunchy messages on his answering machine and paying him $2,000,000 to keep it all on the down low” astronomical.

Is it me? Blaine Neal’s a fuckin giant and his throwing arm doesn’t appear to go behind his ear before delivery…

Embree, I hear ya. I haven't settled in either. My calendar is still stuck on October 27, 2004.

I don't really sweat the Sox until sometime after the All-Star break. There's too much baseball left to get hysterical in May. How many times in the last 5 years have the Sox started hot, collapsed and then made a second half charge? All 5, I think.

DaveL:

Don't you know? Developing talent in your own farm system is overrated. That's why we keep quadruple-A farm teams in places like KC and Montreal (now Washington).

Though I'd like to see this Shoppach kid duke it out with Mirabelli for the right to play every 5th day.

Did anyone see Larry Bowa on ESPN talking about who's hot and as a "manager" who he'd put in his lineup these days? Who's Larry's "go to guy" for RBI's these days? Manny...as in Manny-guys-left-on-base. One RBI on this road trip so far. And why were you fired? Pay attention.

good one...

Sigh.

He's 22, and his ERA is 3.92.

I thought after Millar's initial double that the Olerud signing had woken him up, but I guess not.

I agree with the All-Star break assessment: until then, I simply hope they keep it close so they don't need to have a 22-3 run in August to make a run for the playoffs. I'd bet Randy Johnson's groin injury they'll be fine by the break.

And by then, I'll have enough meds to sedate me during every Clement start.

It's a whole new world Sawx fans! Who else can forget that before the year 0 ADS (After Dave's Steal) we would prepare for the inevitable October Suicide watch? Troopers patrolling the bridges looking for jumpers, Eddie Andleman losing his freaking mind, the curly red haired putz trying to figure out new ways to cash in our misery- All that is gone now!

It's May already. Give them some time. I could care less if they aren't settled in and comfortable until after the All Star break. Then I'll start freaking out.

How bout that slow implosiion goin' on over in the Bronx though, eh? Bernie to AAA? Enjoy these moments RSN, we still are the reigning WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS and the MFY's are the reigning Chokers.

I was at the game last night (drove up to Detroit from Columbus), and it was pretty pathetic how these Tiger fans suddenly grew some berries once they were up 8-3. One actually tried to brag that his mighty Tigers had won three world series in the past 90 years! I pointed out that we have won FIVE in the past 90 or so years, so then he accused me of being a bandwagon fan since I wasn't from Boston... I told him I've been a fan since I was ten, so suck me. After that, I got some beer and peanuts thrown at me, but hey, at least I root for a team that has made the playoffs since 1987..

The full account of my evening is on my blog in words, and over on my flickr page in photos...

HB, are you going to add the new guy and a backstory to the "About The Soxaholix" page? I'd be interested.

Yeah, what's Steve Xiang's deal? Does he have anything to do with terra cotta warriors? Wait, that's Xi'an. Ignore me, I haven't taken an archaeology class in 8 years and I get confused.

Yes, I'll be adding his profile/background to the About page as well as tinkering a bit with the existing profiles.

Watching Millar at bat makes me sick. Why the F hasn't he been dropped in the lineup? Ortiz (not making excuses) is getting NOTHING in the strike zone and cowboy up is getting several meatballs per AB and he still can't cash in. Olerud may come up and not hit, but at least he has better range than a headstone. And God forbid we even ATTEMPT a bunt. And we know ownership doesn't care. They're too busy figuring out a way to charge fans for the air they breathe while they're attending games.

Wow.

OK—I’ll clarify: Bonderman’s “Lifetime” ERA is 5.07 and he is now 5 months and 24 days shy of 23.
