Scratch his name on your arm with a fountain pen

The Red Sox set out on a West Coast swing …

Bill:
Gotta love the mid week off day for travel … gives ya a chance to catch a breath, step back and evaluate

Doug:
Yes, the first West Coast trip of the season, where many dreams have withahd through the yeahs.

Bill:
I'm surprised the Sox don't visit La Ciudad de Nuestra Señora, Reina de Los Angeles de Porciuncula Angels until August.

Doug:
Yeah, I always look forward to seeing that dude K-Rod in his Mr. Magoo glasses.

Bill:
Speaking of crotchety, myopic, Magoos, our man Dan has anothah of his Rojah Come Home hahdons today.

Doug:
Ah, yes, the bring back "the greatest pitcha evah" meme. Right on schedule.

Bill:
Truth is I'd love to see Clemens in a Boston uni again, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna write him little love notes or fawn like an awkward high school girl with a tremulous haht sitting by the phone waiting to get asked to prom by the class jock.

Doug:
No shit. Can't you just see it? The stories of Theo having dinnah with Rogah and Debbie and their k-k-k-kids, the "I've always loved the fans of Boston and their tradition and passion" sound bites …

Bill:
Yeah, Gammons on ESPN saying the deal is 99.99% done, DirtDogs photoshopping Clemens in a Sox uniform and then …

Doug:
Clemens signs with the motherfucking Yankees.

Bill:
You know it. I know it. We all effin' know it.

I nevah want to see that fat-faced traitah around heah again. Yes, he may be the best ever. Yes, he's an amazing specimen. Yes, it's fascinating to see someone who looks more and more like Ted Kennedy each day throwing 97 mph at age 43 or whatever. But let's not forget that Rajah is a piece of k-k-krap who got totally out of shape and just mailed it in for his last 3-4 years here.

fuck clemens then, fuck clemens now, and fuck clemens forever

assfuckah

i went to atlanta's first game against the stro's in the playoffs last year just to ride his ass all day long. turns out that my entire section at Turner Field was also red sox fans doing the same thing

I loved and still love Roger Clemens. There is nothing better than being at a baseball game when a pitcher can just totally dominate the other team, and there is nothing more exciting then stepping into a stadium when a great pitcher is scheduled that day knowing that anything is possible. Sox fans have been lucky to have Clemens and Pedro for almost 20 straight years to provide that.

That said, I don't think he should be a trade target. The Astros would want way too much in return to make up for all the ticket sales they would lose. Besides, when healthy our rotation is already very good. It's good now even without Schilling. First base and more bullpen help are better targets to go after.

I have this unshakable, heinous feeling that Schilling will not start another game this year, i.e, his foot is permanently fucked.

But I'm in a lousy funk of a mood today, so your mileage may vary.

I must have watched the 20K game 10-15 times on NESN when they showed it for a year or two after it happened. I loved Roger. He was my idol as a little kid. As soon as he put on a Yankee's uniform, he became a chubby modern-day Benedict Arnold to me. You know, General Arnold won some victories against the Brits, but once he swapped sides General Washington wasn't about to kiss his ass to bring him back.

Even worse is the fact that the guy is over 40 and wearing spiky dyed-blonde hair. Does he think he's on the fucking OC? If anyone thinks the ribbing Arroyo took in Beantown for the cornrows was bad, let Rotund Clemens show up with his skater-do. His chillun will cry from the abuse their daddy takes.

If you want to hate someone you have to hate Duquette. The only thing nice I can say about Dan Duquette is "Tek and Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb." That's it. With hindsight in perfect focus, I'd take Clemens for another 8 years over Petey. Dude won two Cy Youngs in Toronto of all places and was *traded* to the Yanks. After all we'd done for Petey and all the bitching he did, no one came out and said he was washed up like they did with Roger. You can't fault him for ranking his NY experience over his Boston experience. They wanted to keep him so bad in NYC he had to retire to get out of there. You can't say he had the same warm/fuzzy coming out of beantown.

If you usher out Clemens' career hating the guy, you'll regret it the rest of your baseball fandom because some day you'll realize how rare a player Roger Clemens is and that most of the accomplishments he'll be remembered for were done or built on things done in Boston. He'll wear a Sox hat in the Hall. You'll regret that you had a few last chances to see Clemens pitch, but wrote him off as some 'traitor'.

I was at the first 20K game and am a little disappointed in my dad for not keeping the stubs. I was 11 and didn't really realize 20 strikeouts was alot in a game. He tossed two 20K games though, remember? Only did it with the Sox. Only guy to toss two.

I'll never forgive Clemens. Ever. I will never cheer for that fat fucking traitor as long as I live. Duquette did a lot of dumb things in his time, but I give him a pass for calling Clemens washed up, because all evidence at the time said he was. We give him a nice huge contract, and the guy proceeds to climb inside a bucket of fried chicken for four mediocre years as he lazes around and dogs it. At least when we gave Petey his huge contract, he showed up and pitched his ass off every game he was in. And Clemens didn't just happen to be traded to NY, he had an illegal clause inserted in his Toronto contract, and forced a trade to NY so he could piggyback his way to the WS Ring he couldn't ever earn in Boston. Every day that fat traitor pitches, I root for him to suffer a career ending injury. Roger back here would be an insult to the Sox uniform.

Fuck him.

Clemens is a hot button topic among fans, eh? No middle ground.

Trifecta:

Shank
Gammo
BDD

I have nothing but contempt for all three.

Clemens, if he goes anywhere, is going to NYY—IF the Spanks are within shouting distance of the playoffs…

They are digging themselves a big hole, but Houston scuffled for months last season until they made a move or two and charged to the playoffs.

But, in late-May, the season is over???

Clemens back to Fenway? And this is “my problem”, I know: to win the World Series with Clemens would never be as cool as winning with the guys currently on the roster.

I think no one and everyone is to blame for Clemens' departure--Duquette poked him a bit, but Clemens did not appear to be as motivated before his departure from Boston as he was after.

Besides, we can count on one hand the modern-era pitchers who have worked at a DOMINANT level into their late 30's/early 40.

Oh yeah, how the fuck can Gammons take those shots at Manny? We all know how Manny rolls…Manny-land and all of that shit…average outfielder—“adventures”, but a better arm than many credit him with and he plays the wall fairly well.

He’s on pace for 40HR and 145RBI…current top 5 in AL RBI, 2 HR off the AL Leader…his BA/SLG is low—but, he hasn’t even warmed up yet…he’s had a “confused at the plate” patch before and then he destroys all for 30 games or so….

That Gammo piece on BDD has totally pissed me off.

OK, I’m done…

"If you usher out Clemens' career hating the guy, you'll regret it the rest of your baseball fandom because some day you'll realize how rare a player Roger Clemens is and that most of the accomplishments he'll be remembered for were done or built on things done in Boston"

fuck no i wont regret it. and his prfound love for the yanks ("the yanks are the only team i will consider a trade for") - let him wear the yanks hat in coperstown

fuck roger

and fuck pedro too

Was thinking the same thing re Gammons' WEEI transcript posted on BDD: Has Gammons not been watching Manny for years? This is Manny being Manny and all that. It's in his personality to be detached. Indeed isn't his zen mantra one of "See the ball; hit the ball." Nothing more. Nothing less. I'd argue that Manny is so successful precisely because he is so detached. Nothing fazes him. He just hits the ball.

Personally, I'd love to be at detached as Manny. Beats the fuck out of this uptight, always in a hurry, hyper critical New England personality I was born with.

Hey Lumpy -

I understand the special talent Clemens has, and I understand it's a powerful baseball player that can keep doing what he's doing at his age. I also remember both 20K games and being so young and never realizing how rare a thing THAT is. But he doesn't belong back here. I forget who said it, but for all the hoopla about whose logo his bronze bust in Cooperstown will be wearing, that guy ought to go in with a '$' on his cap. I hate the dude for what he said about Boston, for spending so many years in Beantown and happily burning his bridges here because Duquette said he was done (even Pedro didn't leave with that much vitriol), and yes for his fruity blond tips. Just like with Jeter I can recognize the guy's a stupendous player while hoping, honestly, I never hear about the dude again. And I hope to never see his chubby ass in another XXXL Sox jersey ever again.

ok so maybe calling Jeter 'stupendous' was a stretch.

"Personally, I'd love to be at detached as Manny."

Oh, fuck yeah. I am notoriously "tightly wound"--thank God my wife is rational.

Ohter than her commitment to marry me, natch.

Clemens is not as bad as Parcells and Curtis Martin, but he is pretty high on the traitor scale. I'd rather see Marty McSorley back in a Bruins uni than have Clemens make a triumphal return. I'd rather not have Clemens' name on the list of Red Sox players who have won a World Series.

That said ... h.b., I am in a great mood. I live in Seattle and I am going to see Gonzalez and Wakes pitch this weekend. I'll see Miller on TV tomorrow ... and I am waiting with baited breath for a Miller-Mueller-Millar double play. Oh please, Terry, put Bill at second on Saturday!

I got over that shit years ago.
The man can still pitch.
We need more pitching.
Sign him if you can.

let me make this clear: there is only 1 way i want clemens back in boston: with his head on a pike

Beautifully said.

When I was high school I got one of those photo shopped mugs with me standing next to Clemens in a Sox uniform (I know, pretty lame, but I wanted to be Clemens when he was with the Sox). After he got traded to Toronto, I still kept it thought it would be a nice momento of a guy who used to play for the Sox. The day he was traded to the MFY, I took the mug out, and smashed it with a hammer, no lie.

Some said this a few months ago, "He's dead to me." It might be the black-hearted Irish in me, but its true. Let him sign with the MFY and will kick his ass, too.

Let him sign with the MFY. His petulant behavior will be a welcomed addition in that clubhouse. Imagine the ego battles between him, Alice, and tha Shef. Plus that prick Posada thinkin' he's all that. Nothing would be sweeter than stuffing Roger up (and that prick Posada). Period.

HEY HEY HEY!!!!! WHATS WITH ALL THE ANIMOSITY TOWARDS CLEMENS?

oh, that's right - he's an arrogant traitor prick

WEEI Dale mentioned to day that three separate times, in print, Gammons has stated he thought Manny was one of the best all time right hand batters. He seems a little inconsistent.

Funny we talk about Clemens and Manny, and how they are so alike, but so different. Both fantastic in what they do, but we can't stand Clemens because he is a traitor. Manny is aloof, and we love that. Manny loves the fans, but why we truly love him, is his love for the game first and foremost. I venture to say, even if he went to the MFY, we would not hate him as much as we hate Clemens. Call me crazy.

ill call you crazy. any Sawx who goes to the Dark Side? Dead to me. I dont mention the chicken man, cant stand to think about flash, and clemens has assured himself a special place in hell

as ofr dark siders coming forth to the light? um...mendoza? wells? cant say im all warm and fuzzy

Out of all the poisonous words floating towards Clemens, I have to nominate Josh Blue for funniest comment. You take the great "I'ma defend Rotundo" tack with the first line, then finish off with, "oh, that's right - he's an arrogant traitor prick". Bloody genius.

I agree that any Sox player who goes to the Yankees has passed the river Styx to me, but Spankees players who defect to Sox Nation get treated like Captain Ramius in "Hunt for Red October". I'm happy they saw the bright side. If any outfielders retire wikkid early or want a trade when their contract's up (I'm looking at you, Caveman), I'd take Hideki Matsui. That mofo got skeelz.

I'd let Clemens come back but only
if he promises not to speak and communicates
only by mime.

Clemens is still as intimidating as ever. We'd pay him to pitch. I'd take him in a heartbeat.....

I agree that anyone who goes from the Sox to that team in NYC is a traitor. And I do hate Clemens because he is a traitos. But after seeing what his organization did for a father and his son who was sick on "While You Were Out" on TLC, I do hate him a little less. They bought them a condo, and Clemens helped (probably didn't do that much) to fix it up real pretty for them. Now thats doing something nice with all the money you have. Doesn't mean I want him back on the Sox though.

//If you want to hate someone you have to hate Duquette. The only thing nice I can say about Dan Duquette is "Tek and Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb." That's it. With hindsight in perfect focus, I'd take Clemens for another 8 years over Petey.//

Dude, you're on crack. Seriously. So drafting Nomar, trading for Pedro and signing Manny had no value to the Sox? And as has been pointed out on SoSH about a thousand times, Duquette's "twilight of his career' quote has been complete taken out of context by the asshats in the Boston media who just wanted any ammo they could find to slam Duquette because he was a cold fish with a bad haircut.

//You'll regret that you had a few last chances to see Clemens pitch, but wrote him off as some 'traitor'.//

Given that he
a)left for more money (certainly his right, and one I begrudge no player, but don't try to claim he had any desire to stay)
b) has never indicated that his years in Boston ever meant anything to him or that he ever gave a crap about Sox fans
c) spent every day of his tenure in the Bronx humping the Bambino monument in centerfield and
d) would love to go back again to hang with his buddies Jetes and Dumbosada (and hump the monuments a few more times......

...yeah, I'd say the word 'Traitor' is perfect.

Almost forgot to point out that this comment was great. Kudos!

It doesn't take a slide rule to figure out that Petey, Manny, Johnny or any of the other premium cuts are going to help your team statistically. Even Brian Cashman can take daddy's credit card, pick up the All-Star catalog and put together a good team. I'll give you drafting Nomar and standing firm with that ass monkey John Valentin when he cried about moving for Nomar.

Clemens' fettish for the Yankees does bother me on another level but I believe it's simply a real respect for the game rather than disrespect to Sox fans. You can't deny what the Yankees have done and Clemens simply considers himself a citizen of baseball, not Red Sox Nation. But, let's not co-mingle my respect for Clemens as a baseball player with any desire to have him back in Boston tomorrow. There's no way he's right for *this* team now. It's just that I can't help but wonder what may have been if he stayed. You're buried a little too deep in the SoSH cult if you think a guy with his work ethic and durability would have tolerated another season like the one he had before leaving Boston.

So why do you hate Clemens so much? He's a traitor for going to the Blue Jays? He wanted more money? He went to the Jays for $8.4 mil/yr those two years (and averaged that three years beyond). Pedro averaged $9.3 mil/yr his first two years with the Sox. He's a traitor because liked being a Yankee? I think any professional athlete enjoys winning and that's what they did when he was there.

Get a clue.

ill put this simple for you lumpy, you mouth breathing, short yellow bus taking assclown:

fuck yourself

my antipathy towards ro-gah is justified and equitable.

and assclowns like yourself have a tendency to jerk themselves off at the sight of pinstripes

im sorry, was that too harh?

//It doesn't take a slide rule to figure out that Petey, Manny, Johnny or any of the other premium cuts are going to help your team statistically.//

No, but in the case of Pedro, it took a guy who was saavy enough to draft Carl Pavano and swindle the Yankees out of Tony Armas Jr. in order to have an attractive enough package to complete the trade for him and beat out the offers made by Cleveland and the Yankees. Duquette actually swindled two teams out of Pedro, as he earlier got him from the Dodgers for Delino DeShields when he was the Montreal GM. He was also smart enough to lock in both Pedro and Nomar long-term, in Nomar's case well below his market value. As for Manny and Damon, of course that was Duquette pulling out the Yawkey Trust's checkbook, but at least he was throwing a ton of money at the right free agents......they both turned out to be a lot better signings than the two big deals that Ca$hman made at the time for Mussina and Giambi.

//Clemens' fettish for the Yankees does bother me on another level but I believe it's simply a real respect for the game rather than disrespect to Sox fans. You can't deny what the Yankees have done and Clemens simply considers himself a citizen of baseball, not Red Sox Nation.//

Yeah, keep telling yourself that. The guy spends 13 years in a Sox uniform, and then spends the following 8 years trying to pretend they never happened. As for the 'citizen of baseball' stuff, um....whatever.

//It's just that I can't help but wonder what may have been if he stayed.//

He would have stayed fat and unmotivated, and would have retired years ago after a few more mediocre seasons. He really should be greatful to the Duke, because his obsessive hatred of the guy lit the fire under his ass to actually pitch well again.

//Get a clue.//

You first Dude. Getting off the crackpipe would be a good start.
